The Des Places Educational Association (DEA) is a limited Company set up in 1999 by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit designated to act as Patron of the nine Holy Ghost schools and colleges in Ireland.Up to that time the official Patron was the Provincial Superior of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit in Ireland, assisted by the Provincial Council.

The DEA takes its name from the co-founder of the Congregation, Claude Poullart des Places.The Company consists of two bodies, the Members of the Company and a Board of Directors.The Members of the Company are the Provincial Council of the Congregation together with other co-opted Spiritans.
The affairs and business of the Company are managed by the Board of Directors, who are members of the Congregation and lay persons.

An Education Officer and Faith Development Officer are employed by the Board, subject to approval by the Members. The Chairman and all other Directors of the Board give of their time and expertise voluntarily.

Officers' Profiles
 
Caroline Clarke - Education Officer
 
Caroline Clarke is the Education Officer for the Des Places Educational Association. Her role is to oversee and support the management of the schools in line with the Spiritan ethos and the educational legislation which governs schools.

Caroline qualified as a teacher of English and Classical Studies from U.C.D. She completed a Honours Masters degree in Education with the University of Ulster.

Caroline has been Deputy and Principal of St. Mary’s Diocesan school, an all boys secondary school in the North East. She was seconded to the Leadership Development for Schools (LDS) Team in 2007 as an Assistant National Coordinator with responsibility for the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (Tóraíocht), a national diploma course, in partnership with NUI Maynooth. Caroline is an Associate member of LDS.

Currently, Caroline is a part-time lecturer on the Masters in Educational Leadership at Trinity College, Dublin.

Orla Walsh - Faith Development Officer
Orla Walsh is the Faith Development Officer for the Des Places Educational Association. Her role is to promote the lived reality of faith in Spiritan schools by facilitating a spirit of community, rooted in the core values of Spiritan education.

Orla, who has an honours M.Ed. began her career as a Religion and English teacher. Having spent a decade in the classroom she took on the role of Post- Primary Diocesan Advisor for the Archdiocese of Dublin and has worked in a variety of roles with the Mater Dei Institute for many years.

In her most recent position as full-time Catechetical Writer with Veritas, Orla is the author of a variety of resources ranging from post-primary textbooks to ‘FaithConnect’ a new interactive, religious education website.

As Faith Development Officer with Des Places Educational Association, Orla will provide a variety of support services that will strive to encourage and empower the development of faith in all of the Spiritan schools.

  Garry Lyons - Property and Finance  
   
  Garry Lyons currently manages the Property & Finance portfolio on behalf of the DEA. His role provides support for the colleges in financial management as well as looking after the financial obligations of the patron. Garry also works closely with the colleges and the Congregation on property management. Garry is also a member of the DEA Board of Directors.

Garry holds degree qualifications in Management, Marketing and a Certified Diploma in Accountancy and Finance and a Graduate of the Banking Institute.

Garry has extensive experience in business and corporate affairs having worked at management level in banking and also holding directorships in several companies involved in business consultancy, event management and corporate communications.
