First opened in 1890, St Mary’s College now has over 450 pupils, with a staff of 35 teachers. A broad secondary school curriculum is offered to all students, covering a wide range of academic subjects, as well as many sporting, cultural and extra-curricular activities. Facilities at the school are modern, including science labs and a multi purpose sports hall.

In addition to core subjects of Maths, English and Irish, students may also choose to study History, Geography, Information Technology, Music, Latin, French and German, as well as options from a range of Science and Business subjects. Both Religious Education and Physical Education are an integral part of each student’s timetable. The Transition Year programme forms the basis of the students’ 4th year in the Secondary school cycle. Students are encouraged to take part in the annual musical, produced in association with nearby St. Louis High School. There are also regular school visits to the theatre and museums and an exchange programme with a school in Australia for boys in Transition Year.

A community of 8 members of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit is based at the school. Liturgical ceremonies are a regular feature of school life, students may attend daily mass, along with access to the sacrament of penance, annual retreats, Christmas and Easter ceremonies and the services of both the RE department and the chaplaincy team.

Student involvement in social care is also fostered through the work of both Aidlink and the St Vincent de Paul Society in Ireland. There is also a bi-annual visit to Ghana giving the students a rich cultural and thought-provoking experience.
